What to Expect

Greetings!

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff members. Checking in is quick and easy, and be assured that all your personal information will be kept private.

Preliminary Testing

Before you see your eye doctor, our Optometric Assistant will perform additional tests that will supplement your eye examination. They include:

  • Computer-assisted Refraction
  • Corneal Curvature
  • Eye Pressure
  • Depth Perception
  • Color Vision Test
  • Macular Integrity Test

Your Eye Examination

At Coventry Eye Care Associates, your doctor provides you with the best comprehensive eye health evaluation, which will provide you with clear and comfortable vision. Dr. Tom evaluates the health of the front structures of a patient’s eyes with a biomicroscope.

Dry Eye Syndrome, Cataracts, Glaucoma, and Corneal Dystrophy are just a few of the conditions that can be detected and monitored with an eye exam. Often times a dilated pupil allows your eye doctor a more thorough view of the retina.

Here, Dr. Rick evaluates the health of a patient’s retina using binocular vision and a magnifying lens. Don’t worry, nothing touches your eyes.

Diabetic retinopathy, high blood pressure, macular degeneration, retinal holes and tears, and other retinal defects are detected and monitored with periodic and dilated retinal exams.

This is why annual eye exams at Coventry Eye Care are so important.

Retinal Photography

Retinal photography is often used at Coventry Eye Care to document the health status of a patient’s retina. We utilize these photos to detect early changes, as well as to educate patients about their own eye health. Patients love seeing their own retinas for the first time. Some of the conditions we photo-document are:

  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Glaucoma
  • Hypertensive Retinopathy
  • Optic Atrophy
  • Freckles in the Retina

Glaucoma Testing

Glaucoma is a silent condition. Patients may not experience any signs or symptoms until it is too late. When indicated, special testing is provided to detect or monitor any changes to the eye health due to Glaucoma.

Our newest and latest instrument measures the amount of thinning or damage at the optic nerve and can catch Glaucoma before any serious damage occurs to the patient’s functional vision.

Our Visual Fields instrument measures a patient’s functional vision sensitivity, and is an important component in detecting and monitoring Glaucoma. It also gives on a glimpse into the neurological pathways of the eyes and brain, and is therefore a very important test in detecting other neurological and systemic diseases such as:

  • Optic Atrophy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Thyroid Disease
  • Stroke

During a Glaucoma workup, your corneal thickness is also measured. Did you know that people with thin corneas are at greater risk of developing Glaucoma?

If you are at risk of developing Glaucoma, rest assured that you will receive the most comprehensive testing, analysis and treatment options by our staff and doctors.

Contact Lenses

The contact lens industry has greatly improved the quality and design of contact lenses in recent years.

We provide our patients with the latest improvements in contacts, such as:

  • Contacts for patients suffering from Dry Eye Syndrome.
  • Multi-Focal contacts for patients requiring both distance and near correction.
